Le Mans winner and former Formula 1 driver David Brabham, the son of the late Australian racer Sir Jack Brabham, has launched a new car brand called Brabham Automotive.
Unveiling the new venture overnight, the company has been announced two years after the company name was first registered in the UK. There are no further details at this stage, though it is understood the Brabham start-up will look to mirror that of McLaren, with separate road car and racing car entities.
"Today’s launch heralds the start of a new chapter in the story of a family synonymous with success," said the statement from Brabham Automotive.
"Drawing on vast experience from four decades of competing at all levels of global motorsport, David Brabham has combined his skill, passion and enthusiasm to guide this project ahead of its unveiling."
David Brabham, who was born in UK but spent much of his childhood in Australia, told UK's Autocar last year that he wanted "to see the name back on track", hinting at a return to motorsport.
In doing so, he would return full circle on the Brabham name, which has been synonymous with racing since 1955, when three-time world champion Jack first ventured into F1.
Reports have speculated Brabham is in the frame to purchase the Force India F1 team.
The team is yet to reveal its 2018 car and squad amid an ongoing legal case for its owner, Indian business mogul Vijay Mallya.
The company says it will launch more information shortly.
