Brabham gives first glimpse of V8-powered BT62 hypercar

Brabham Automotive has given us our first glimpse of its track-focussed hypercar that it has created to rival the McLaren Senna.

As you can see from this single shadowy teaser image released overnight, the new BT62 gets a pair of bright T-shaped LED tail-lights, a huge rear diffuser and an enormous rear wing, hinting at the huge performance that will be delivered by the fledgling car-maker's first offering.

Announcing that it will come powered by a 5.4-litre V8 that will provide it with a power-to-weight ratio of 720bhp (537kW) per tonne, Brabham also revealed that the BT62 will have a dry weight of just 972kg -- so expect total power to top 560kW.

That wing, meanwhile, plus an advanced aerodynamic package inspired by motorsport, will see the track-suited hypercar generate a mighty 1200kg of downforce.

Reigning in all that performance, Brabham says, are carbon-ceramic disc brakes that get six-piston callipers all round.

Set to be priced at £1 million ($A1.8m) plus local taxes, the road-legal BT62 costs more than the McLaren Senna that's priced from £750,000 ($A1.3 million), although its British rival says it has built (and sold) 500 cars, so expect the BT62 to be far more exclusive.

It's not yet known if Brabham will sell its BT62 Down Under.

Founded by late Australian racing legend Sir Jack Brabham's son David, Brabham has already announced it will operate as both a road and race car manufacturer.

This means it is highly likely the BT62 will be spun-off as a GT4 or GT3 race car and could one day race at Le Mans.

The car-maker's first offering will no doubt benefit from the racing experience of David Brabham, who not only won Le Mans but once raced in F1.

Brabham Automotive has confirmed it will unveil the BT62 at a special event in London on May 2.
