Brabham hatching McLaren Senna rival

Brabham Automotive has confirmed it will unveil its first new model – called the BT62 – at a special event in London on May 2.

Judging by a single screen grab taken the moment the BT62 passes the camera, it appears from the blurred silhouette that the car being readied by Brabham will look more like a Le Mans prototype endurance racer than a traditional supercar – for good reason.

According to reports, Brabham is readying nothing short of a road-legal, track-biased hypercar to rival the likes of McLaren Senna -- and it will compromise creature comforts for ultimate pace around a race circuit.

Last month, the UK-based start-up car-maker released a short video of its forthcoming creation idling during testing.

Sounding more like a racer than a road car, the BT62 in the video emitted the rough, unsilenced note of a powerful V8.

Brabham is keeping quiet on what exactly it is readying but has announced its first offering will be "unquestionably fast but about far more than outright speed".

"The Brabham BT62 is resolutely focused on uncompromising performance, handling and driver involvement," said Brabham.

Founded by late Australian racing legend Sir Jack Brabham's son David, who himself is a Le Mans winner and former F1 driver, Brabham Automotive has announced it will operate as a separate road and racing car division.

That could mean its BT62 road car might spin-off GT4 or GT3 race versions, in the process reviving one of the most famous names in motorsport.

Recently, there were widespread reports that Brabham had also made an approach to take over the Force India F1 team, although so far those rumours have been unfounded.
