Brabham names The Bend as home base

Anglo-Aussie supercar start-up anoints The Bend as development base

Australia’s newest racetrack has been anointed by the nation’s newest supercar brand.

Anglo-Aussie supercar start-up, Brabham Automotive, officially launched its Australian operation in Adelaide tonight and announced The Bend Motorsport Park as its official Australian testing facility.

Located at Tailem Bend (SA), The Bend offers a number of layouts, the longest of which at 7.7km is aimed at international GT events, likely to attract Brabham Automotive’s future racing models. It is the second longest permanent GT car circuit in the world.

Company founder and chief test driver, David Brabham, was in Australia for the launch and tested a newly liveried BT62 (pictured) at the new circuit

“The Bend is a world-class circuit and a testament to the passion and hard work of Dr Sam Shahin and his team,” Brabham stated.

“The track gives the car and the driver a great work out and we look forward to working with The Bend team as our testing program continues,” he said.

Just 70 of the $1.8m Brabham BT62 track-only supercar will be built at Brabham Automotive’s global headquarters and manufacturing facility at Edinburgh Parks in Northern Adelaide.

Brabham Automotive is part of the Fusion Capital group of companies. Director of Fusion Capital and Brabham Automotive’s Commercial Director, Dan Marks spoke to the company’s decision to base itself in Adelaide.

“South Australia has a rich automotive heritage stretching back to the 1920’s and Adelaide, in particular, is a centre of excellence for engineering capability and capacity,” Marks stated

“When you consider Adelaide’s famed motorsport connections, there is simply no better place for us to be manufacturing high performance cars,” he said.

The BT62 was launched in London earlier this month.

The company says interest has been “incredibly high” and claims first deposits have been taken. First deliveries are expected “in late 2018”.
