If you thought the Mercedes-AMG A45 S 4MATIC+ couldn’t get any quicker or more powerful, think again because tuning giant Brabus has just unleashed a monster.
Merc’s hottest hatch is already fitted with the most powerful four-cylinder production engine ever made, pumping out 310kW of power and 500Nm of torque straight off the showroom floor.
It’s mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to all four corners normally, or 100 per cent of torque to a rear outer wheel if you’re using the model’s factory-fitted ‘Drift Mode’.
Now, Mercedes-AMG tuning specialist Brabus has upped the ante, giving it the same amount of power as the Porsche 911 Carrera S and making it quicker than the AMG’s own GT performance flagship.
Official outputs are increased to 331kW of power (+21kW) and 550Nm of torque (+50Nm), meaning AMG’s already astounding 0-100km/h acceleration claim of 3.9 seconds is reduced to an even sharper 3.7sec. Top speed remains electronically limited to 270km/h.
The power boost is thanks to a Brabus performance kit that includes a special ECU map, an airbox duct, a PowerXtra CPC auxiliary control unit and a BoostXtra adaptor, which is said to produce a ‘sporty blow-off noise like a racecar’. Or, as we enthusiasts like to say, ‘Soo-tuuutuuuuu’.
On top of that, the tuner has given it a few cosmetic tweaks to help it stand out, including tailor-made Monoblock Z 20-inch wheels wrapped in Continental rubber, as well as a more squat appearance courtesy of height-adjustable sports springs which bring it 30mm closer to the road.
Inside the cabin, Brabus says owners can opt for several custom design features including (but not limited to) stainless steel scuff plates with the tuner’s logo, aluminium pedals and velour floor mats.
The leather upholstery can also be had in almost any colour the owner desires.
There’s no word on pricing for the upgrade kit but expect to pay quite the premium on top of the AMG A45 S 4MATIC+’s hefty list price of $94,920 before on-road costs.
