It is believed Ford Australia has dropped plans for the production of the Focus small car in favour of introducing more fuel-efficient engines, destined for the Falcon and Territory models.
Ford's eco-oriented line-up will reportedly include the four-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol 'EcoBoost' engine; a 2.0-litre liquid-injection LPG engine and 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine.
The company will inform motoring media of its plans for the engines in an announcement this morning.
It is understood the decision will not affect the company's production of its six-cylinder engine and that the new program will likely receive funding under the federal government's Green Car Innovation Fund.
Originally, Ford Australia had committed to the production of approximately 40,000 Focus models per annum.
