BREAKING: Volvo and Polestar to exit V8 Supercars
Volvo and Polestar say farewell to V8s from end of this seasonUPDATE 04/05/2016 6:00pm: Latest information from Volvo Car Australia is that it is very unlikely Garry Rogers Motorsport will be allowed to race an S60 as a privateer team in 2017, meaning there's almost no chance of Volvo continuing in the V8 Supercar championship beyond this year.

In a shock announcement just received, Volvo's motorsport and performance arm Polestar has announced it will “not renew the three-year V8 Supercars contract that ends after the current season”.
The brief statement reads: “Polestar, a Volvo Car Group company, responsible for performance offers and motorsport activities of the group, has decided to not renew the three-year V8 Supercars contract that ends after the current season.
”We have enjoyed a good cooperation with Garry Rogers Motorsport and the championship organisers, but our strategy and business objectives requires us now to focus our attention to other technologies and championships in the near future,” said Niels Möller, Chief Operating Officer of Polestar.
”We will of course support the programme in order to achieve the best possible sporting results in 2016, however, we feel it is fair to all involved that we can provide a heads-up ahead of 2017 as early as possible.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to all involved parties in the programme and wish them the very best for the future.”
It’s not clear yet whether Volvo Car Australia will continue the relationship with Garry Rogers Motorsport or V8 Supercars.
