Bridgestone has unveiled the Ecopia EP850, a tyre specifically engineered for lower fuel consumption by SUVs.
In what the company describes as a world first, Bridgestone expects motorists will see fuel savings of 3.6 per cent overall, or in monetary terms, five cents per litre at the pump.
Economy is said to be enhanced thanks to the tyre’s low rolling resistance compound – a 20 per cent improvement over the product’s predecessor, the Dueler D683.
As motoring.com.au has previously reported, Bridgestone is in the process of continually developing more sustainable products. And according to Bridgestone’s Group TFS Manager, Claudio Sodano, the new EP850 offers a number of advantages over its precursor. “Ecopia EP850 combines the toughness and durability that Dueler is well-known for, with the advanced technology benefits of the Ecopia compound. It’s a superior tyre to the D683 in every way, including handling, braking, ride comfort, noise, durability and wear life.”
Although suitable for a number of off-roaders, the new tyre is largely road biased –where most SUVs spend their time – and is best suited to urban and freeway driving.
The Bridgestone Ecopia EP850 is available in 20 sizes, and can be purchased for vehicles ranging from the compact Nissan X-Trail to the hulking Toyota LandCruiser.
