Brock's 05 address to fetch top dollar

Former Sydney race track predicts big bids for Number 5 Peter Brock Drive

The race is on to live at Number 5 Peter Brock Drive -- but the land on the new housing estate is yet to be released.

Oran Park Town, named after the former race track on the south-western outskirts of Sydney, is unrecognisable today as the bulldozers have not only moved in, but the streets of the new housing development have quickly taken shape.

Among the first street signs to be erected is Peter Brock Drive; others to follow include streets named after other famous racing drivers including Mark Webber, Mark Skaife and Allan Moffatt.

Every street in the Landcom development will be named after a race driver.

The marketing manager of Landcom, Robert Sullivan, said that although the land is yet to be released, they had already received expressions of interest about number 5 Peter Brock Drive.

He told a Sydney newspaper: "We find people moving into new suburbs have an instinct to understand the history of the place they're moving into."

There is no speculation yet on how much each plot of land will cost, but given that the development has caught the attention of the Sydney news media it is likely this may push prices up.

The revelation even prompted one Sydney newspaper to write an editor's opinion piece.

Under the headline 'Brock of Land', the comment attributed to the editor of The Daily Telegraph said in part: "The most coveted of all the lots, of course, is lot five ... [but] bargain hunters might consider lot 28. That's the number worn by Brock during his first Bathurst victory in 1972, before he adopted the famous number five."

Landcom did not return calls for an interview by the Carsales Network in time for this article.
