Brock's last Holden fetches $320,000

Melbourne collector buys Peter Brock's Goodwood-prepared 'FX' and race-spec EH at Shannons Australian International Motor Show auction

The last Holden to be raced by Australian motorsport icon Peter Brock was sold at auction this weekend for $320,000.

Conceived by Brock and fan Phil Munday, and with input from former HDT engine builder Ian Tate, the famous Gumleaf Green 1953 FX (48-215) Holden was built for the nine-time Bathurst winner to race at the 2006 Goodwood Revival in England.

Brock finished fourth in the St.Mary's Trophy race for saloon cars at the event, the performance also earning his team the event's prestigious Spirit of Goodwood trophy, which was included with the car in the auction.

Bidding for the famous car started at $280,000 and rose quickly in $10,000 lots before ultimately going to a Melbourne collector, who also purchased a second 'Brock' car minutes later.

That car, a race-spec 1964 EH Holden sedan was built by Munday as a tribute to Brock after his death in 2006. It sold for $75,000.

Other unusual classics to sell at the auction included a 1962 EK Holden ute that made $27,500; a 1956 S3 Bentley ute which brought $40,000; a 1962 Ferret Armoured Reconnaissance vehicle that brought $45,000; and a 1959 Porsche Diesel Tractor which sold for $27,000.
