Subaru’s smashing BRZ sports coupe is now available to purchase through the Japanese brand’s Australian dealer network, like every other Subaru model.
The move follows Subaru Australia’s decision to sell the BRZ exclusively online from last July, in which time about 1800 examples have been sold here.
Pricing remains unchanged at $37,150 (manual) and $39,730 (auto).
In about the same timeframe, Toyota has sold 8330 examples its near-identical model in Australia, the 86, which is priced from $29,990 plus on-road costs.
Subaru Australia says the decision is a result of production efficiencies at the factory that produces both the BRZ and 86.
Its initial allocation of about 200 BRZs was sold out within just three hours of going on sale via the internet, causing its online system to crash.
The BRZ’s online sales success led Subaru Australia to also take deposits for the first 100 examples of its next-generation WRX via the internet from November 26, but its second online sales experiment was met with far more limited success.
“Production efficiencies at Fuji Heavy Industries, the maker of Subaru cars, have presented this opportunity to expand BRZ sales into our retail network,” said Subaru Australia Managing Director Nick Senior.
“It’s great for our customers, because they have the choice of buying online at a drive-away price, or using the more traditional dealer method.
“It’s also great for dealers in our network, which have the opportunity to display one of Australia’s most popular sports cars in their showroom.”
