BUENOS AIRES MOTOR SHOW: Dacia Sandero RS revealed
Budget hatch gets full Renaultsport treatment, gains new 2.0-litre but not much powerRenaultsport has unveiled a new RS version of the Dacia Sandero for the latin American market.
Badged as a ‘Renault’ for the Argentinian market, the new Sandero gains a new normally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol and a six-speed manual gearbox.
Producing a modest 107kW, the new RS packs 40kW less than the Clio RS200 but is said to weigh “significantly less” that the smaller supermini, says Renaultsport.
Dacia is yet to reveal performance figures for the Sandero RS, but expect a sub eight-second 0-100km/h time and a top speed around 210km/h.
Sporting a new body kit and 17-inch black alloys from the Renault Clio RS133, the Sandero also gains new springs and dampers, bigger brakes, a revised steering set-up and an RS mode for its ESC.
Until the Sandero RS arrived the most powerful Renault-badged Dacia sold in Argentina was the 74kW 1.6-litre. According to reports there are no plans to export the new entry-level RS model to Europe or Australasia.
Instead, Renault’s performance division will focus its efforts on readying new Renaultsport versions of the Captur and Kadjar SUVs, plus the highly anticipated, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive Twingo.
