We recently reported on niche Australian/Malaysian retro sportscar specialist Bufori's contemporary-looking CS coupe, but the company has reverted to its trademark 1930s formula with its latest offering.
Revealed at the Geneva motor show, the aptly named Bufori Geneva is a large four-door chariot that packs modern underpinnings and Chrysler V8 power beneath its dubiously styled bodywork.
The car was unveiled by company founders Anthony, George and Gerry Khouri at a press conference during the prestigious Swiss expo, and they declared: "We have decided to name this new Bufori model after the city it was launched in, as this occasion marks an important milestone in our company history."
The semi-monocoque bodied Geneva is fabricated from a carbonfibre/Kevlar composite that's infused with 'Vinylester' resin, and Bufori claims this "stronger-than-steel" innovation provides supreme strength, lightweight and superior structural integrity as well as a lifetime of minimum maintenance."
Motive power comes from a 6.1-litre Chrysler Hemi with 317kW and 569Nm, transferred to the rear hoops via a five-speed auto and limited-slip differential. Bufori quotes a sub-6sec 0-100km/h split and top whack of 260-plus km/h.
And in case this isn't enough, you can specify the optional supercharger, which boosts outputs to 412kW and 690Nm.
Belying its olde-worlde appearance, the Geneva rides on all-independent suspension with a multi-link rear end, and available driver aids include ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Steering Angle Control, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning (LDWS).
In addition, positioned within the front bumper bar is an optional Thermal Imaging Night Vision camera. When activated, day or night, this safety feature recognises pedestrians and objects up to 300 metres away and displays them on a screen on the centre console. Passive safety gear includes front, side and curtain airbags.
Although overtly retro in appearance, the Geneva features bi-xenon headlamps and LED rear lights, but the interior is bedecked with traditional leather and wood veneers.
The Bufori Geneva's classical rear-hinged coach doors allegedly provide "elegant and effortless ingress and egress" and the cabin is "filled with natural light, enhanced by the optional sunroof and complemented by the integrated mood lighting".
Individual fully adjustable rear lounge seating is offered as the standard configuration, and buyers can have their car equipped with a fine tea set with instant boiling water and sink, an Espresso coffee maker or even an ice box. An integrated cool box and mini bar for champagne and glasses, a strong box (safe) for valuables or a cigar humidor are also available.
Each Bufori Geneva moves through 24 production stages and requires more than 6,000 man-hours to create, says the company. Production is scheduled to start in June, with the first units delivered before year-end.
