Bugatti’s much-hyped $8 million Divo hypercar is one step closer to reality, after the car-maker offered a final peek of the production model ahead of its world debut this Friday (August 24).
A solitary silhouette image of the Chiron-based model was shown days days before Bugatti officially rips the covers of the Divo as part of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance car show in the US this week.
The lone teaser image reinforces the commonly-held theory that the Divo will have its own uniquely-styled coachbuilt body, thanks to an aggressive rear wing (potentially with stabilising fin), more muscular wheel-arches and a new glasshouse design.
Insiders have hinted the Divo will be a track-ready model conceived in a similar vein to the Aston Martin Vulcan.
The Divo’s name is certainly inspired by motorsport, tracing its origins to Albert Divo, the French racing driver who won Sicily's Targa Florio mountain race twice for Bugatti.
Earlier teasers of the Divo have already unearthed the car’s OLED tail-lights and extensive fitment of carbon-fibre across its major body panels.
The Divo’s exterior will shroud a platform and running gear that is closely familiar with the Chiron supercar. It promises to outshine its existing sibling, however, with more extreme aero and the promise of more “agile, nimble handling” courtesy of better dynamic properties.
There is also expected to be some commonality shared with the Chiron’s 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine. In its current guise, the 16-cylinder makes an earth-churning 1103kW and 1600Nm.
Like the Chiron, the Divo will be limited to an extremely limited batch of buyers. Just 40 will be built, each with a starting price of €5 million ($A7.9m).
Depending on how they sell, expect more coachbuilt Bugattis to be introduced down the line.
