Bugatti unveils Veyron Vitesse Meo Constantini
Iconic French brand rolls out the third model in its six-part edition 'Les Légendes de Bugatti' at this week's Dubai motor showWe all know Bugatti isn't averse to trundling out the odd limited-edition model to keep buyer interest at a healthy level for its Veyron hypercar – and now the Molsheim-based manufacturer has added another addition to the catalogue in the form of the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse 'Meo Costantini'.
The latest low-volume special is the third instalment in the Legends series, paying tribute to Constantini, who was a close friend of company founder Ettore Bugatti, as well as being the head of the factory race team.
Constantini also enjoyed success as a driver, winning the Targa Florio two times in the Bugatti Type 35, one of the most successful racing cars of all time.
The Vitesse Meo Constantini is priced in Europe at €2.09 million ($3m) excluding taxes, but this hefty spend brings at least some guarantee of exclusivity, as production is being limited to just three units.
The latest special edition follows in the wheeltracks of the Vitesse 'Jean-Pierre Wimille' and 'Jean Bugatti', revealed at the Pebble Beach Concourse and Frankfurt motor show respectively.
Based on the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, the 'Meo Constantini' is propelled by a 'standard' 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine that cranks out 882kW and 1500Nm, enabling it to sprint from 0-100km/h in 2.6sec and achieve a top whack of 408.84km/h.
Distinguishing it from the run-of-the-mill Vitesse, the special edition's wings, doors and panels behind the doors and the corners of the front bumper are rendered in polished aluminium, but the rest of the carbonfibre bodywork is painted in a new shade of blue (“Bugatti Dark Blue Sport”) that references the hallowed Type 35.
As a tribute to Costantini's victory at Targa Florio, the silhouette of the historic race course is painted on the underside of the rear wing (air-brake). Another Constantini tribute comes in the form of his signature, which is laser-engraved into the aluminium tank and oil caps and painted in silver.
Offering contrast to the blue paintwork is the cabin, which is trimmed in “Gaucho” (basically light brown) leather, with dark blue highlights. Meanwhile, the head restraints are embroidered with Meo Costantini's signature and the cover of the rear centre box features the silhouette of the Targa Florio race route.
A special highlight of the interior is the racing scenes and vintage car motifs on the doors, which have been laser-engraved into the leather trim, evoking the most glorious moments of Meo Costantini's racing career.
