Auto auctioneer Shannons reports pleasing results from the 2011 Melbourne Spring Auction with a large crowd of in-house and telephone bidders clearing 88 per cent of stock for $750K. Star performers were classic motorcycles, most notably a restored 1951 Vincent 'Series C' Black Shadow and a 1925 Harley-Davidson JE Model 1000cc, both in excellent condition, that fetched $45,500 and $35,500 respectively.
Other highlights included...
• a 1924 Harley-Davidson 1200cc V-Twin Board Track Racer replica that collected $14,000
• a 1928 Harley-Davidson J Model with a sidecar frame only ($10,000)
• a 1930 Harley-Davidson C Model 500cc Single in euphemistically described 'project' condition ($8,000)
Expect more classic Harleys at Shannons' November Melbourne Summer Auction, the company says. A selection of Aussie muscle cars that went under the hammer included...
• a 1969 Falcon XW GT-HO Phase I sedan in ‘largely-original' condition after nearly three decades with one owner fetched $83K – ‘comfortably' above its pre-sale estimate
• a ‘73 Ford Falcon XA GT 'RPO 83' brought $64,500
A 1962 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 'Improved Saloon' collected $65,000, while a 1927 Chrysler 60 Tourer went for $19,000
The sale also saw Shannons presenting a number of replicas, including:
• a 1965 Mustang GT350 LHD going for $49,000
• a 1990 'Cobra' Roadster for $32,500
• a 1932 Ford Hot Rod Roadster RHD ute replica for $32,250
• a 1971 Ford XY 'GT Replica' ute for $23,000
The company says its no-reserve collection sold well, too. It included...
• a RHD 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Coupe that fetched $36,500 – almost twice its pre-sale estimate
• a 1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series 1 2+2 'Project' Coupe went for $23,000
• a very low-kilometre 1988 Citroen 2CV Charleston sedan for $18,000
• a 1927 Morris Cowley Van from the TV series The Sullivans that sold for $12,000
