The updated BYD Atto 3 EVO has officially launched in Australia, with local specifications confirming a redesigned interior, expanded safety technology and improved practicality for the brand's best-selling electric SUV. While the switch to rear-wheel drive and an 800V architecture for the flagship Premium variant were revealed earlier this year, the full Australian specification sheet highlights a broader focus on day-to-day usability, comfort and family-friendly features.

The Finer Details
Although the biggest headlines surrounding the Atto 3 EVO centred on the move to rear-wheel drive for the Premium grade, BYD has also delivered the most substantial cabin update since the model arrived in Australia in late 2022.
The most obvious change is the adoption of a column-mounted gear selector, replacing the centre-console shifter and freeing up additional storage space between the front seats.
A redesigned steering wheel and larger 8.8-inch digital instrument display further modernise the cabin, while wireless phone charging output rises from 15W to 50W.
Both grades also receive redesigned door trims, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers and a new interior colour scheme.
Heated and ventilated front seats remain standard, while the Premium adds dual-zone climate control and power lumbar adjustment for the driver's seat.
Practicality has improved, particularly in the flagship model. The rear-wheel drive Premium gains a new 101L front boot beneath the bonnet and increases rear cargo capacity from 434L to 490L.
BYD has also increased its braked towing capacity to 1500kg.
Safety technology forms another key part of the EVO update. All variants now feature Child Presence Detection, which can identify when an occupant remains inside the vehicle after it has been locked and trigger an alert.
A Driver Monitoring System has also been added, while the Premium introduces Front Cross Traffic Alert and Front Cross Traffic Brake technology.
The Premium's headline mechanical upgrades remain impressive.
A 230kW/380Nm rear-mounted electric motor and 74.88kWh battery deliver a claimed 510km WLTP driving range and a zero to 100km/h time of 5.5 seconds.
The move to BYD's latest e-Platform 3.0 architecture also brings 220kW DC fast charging capability, allowing a claimed 10 to 80 per cent recharge in 25 minutes.
The Road Ahead
The Atto 3 remains one of BYD's most important vehicles in Australia and this latest update broadens its appeal beyond value-conscious EV buyers. With improved practicality, a more conventional cabin layout and additional safety technology, the EVO arrives better equipped to compete with newer rivals such as the Kia EV3, MG S5 EV and Geely EX5.
Customer deliveries have now commenced in Australia.
