BYD has confirmed the M9 people-mover for Australia, with the front-wheel drive hybrid model due in showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The M9 will launch with a seven-seat Premium variant, before an eight-seat Dynamic grade joins the range at a later date.

The Finer Details
The M9 will become the first people-mover sold by BYD in Australia when it arrives before the end of 2026.
Both grades will use BYD's DM-i 5.0 plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor.
BYD claims up to 145km of EV driving range and up to 850km of total driving range for the Premium variant under the WLTP test cycle.
The Premium uses a 36.60kWh Blade Battery, while the Dynamic receives a smaller 20.39kWh battery pack. Both support AC and DC charging, along with vehicle-to-load functionality.
At 5145mm long, 1970mm wide and 1805mm high, the M9 sits on a 3045mm wheelbase. Boot capacity is rated at 470 litres with all seats in use.
The Premium variant adds heated and ventilated front seats, while second-row captain's chairs are equipped with heating and ventilation functions.
BYD quotes a 1500kg braked towing capacity.
Safety equipment includes up to nine airbags, a 360-degree camera system, five millimetre-wave radars, eight ultrasonic sensors and a range of driver-assistance technologies. BYD says 73 per cent of the vehicle's structure is made from high-strength steel.

The M9 expands BYD's Australian line-up into the people-mover segment and will arrive in showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2026.
Australian pricing and full specifications have not yet been announced and are expected closer to launch.
