The 2024 BYD Shark will make its global debut in Mexico next Tuesday (May 14).
Confirmation of the all-new Chinese dual-cab 4x4 hybrid ute’s world premiere date came alongside another official teaser image of the Shark, released overnight via BYD’s social media channels.
While the image doesn’t show much more than we’ve already seen in previous teasers and spy shots captured in Mexico, it did confirm the timing and location of the BYD Shark’s world premiere.
“BYD Shark. Hybrid Power, Wild Spirit. Global Debut and Mexico Launch Event 2024.05.14,” read the post.
The BYD Shark was widely expected to appear at the Beijing motor show last month, but instead BYD released another teaser image.
BYD’s local importer has confirmed to carsales that the Chinese brand’s first ute will not appear at the official local launch of the recently-renamed BYD Sealion 6 (the mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV formerly known as the Seal U) in Melbourne on May 16 – two days after its global reveal.
But it still expects to release the Shark in Australia by the end of this year, when it would become the first plug-in hybrid ute available Down Under.
The BYD Shark has been partly developed in Australia, which is expected to be one of its key export markets, and should bring PHEV efficiency for a similar price to premium diesel-powered versions of the dominant Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
