Mercedes-Benz Australia (MBAu) has moved aggressively to reinforce the positioning of its C 63 AMG Coupe, in the face of stiff competition from arch-rival, BMW.
It has cut the price of the C 63 AMG 507 Edition Coupe from $171,407 to $159, 507.
The price tag positions the two-door, four-seater 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 AMG between BMW's brand-new twin-turbo six-cylinder M3 sedan and M4 coupe launched this week Down Under. The new M3 sedan is priced from $156,900 plus on-road costs, while the M4 coupe kicks off at $166,900 plus ORCs.
"We expect that there will be strong demand for the last application of our 6.3 [sic] atmo engine so we have negotiated a special deal to offer the C 63 AMG 507 coupe at this price," MBAu spokesperson David McCarthy told motoring.com.au.
In reality, Benz is also bolstering the AMG coupe's position against its newer competition.
Set to be replaced by all-new 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 versions later this year, the C 63 sedan and wagon have both already ceased production. The all-new C 63 sedan will arrive in Q1 of 2015 with the wagon. However, the all-new coupe version is unlikely to arrive Down Under until late 2015.
MBAu says it has secured enough coupe stock to carry it through to the end of 2015.
Benz's C 63 range has been a success Down Under. MBAu says across its sedan, wagon and coupe variants, C 63 has accounted for around one third of all AMG volume. This year, claims the car maker, AMG will celebrate its 10,000th Australian delivery.
Australians are expected to buy more than 2000 AMGs in 2014.
