Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced pricing and specification details of its W204 Series C-Class Estate line-up. Though pricing for the range-topping C63 AMG Estate was announced last month (more here), Benz had kept quiet on the cost premium and extent of its non-AMG wagon models until now.
In all, Mercedes Oz will offer three C-Class wagons locally, including the AMG car. The two mainstream models are the petrol-engined C 200 Kompressor Estate and the turbodiesel-powered C 220 CDI Estate.
The premium Benz is charging for the wagons over comparable sedan models is now just $1800. This has been reduced from $4400 for the previous W203 series C-Class range.
The 200 kicks off the range, priced from $58,890 with the 220 priced from $63,100. The C63 Estate is priced at $141,300. The 200 goes on sale this month, with both 220 and C63 wagons expected in showrooms in September.
The specification levels and option kits for the C-Class Estate mirror those of the corresponding sedan model, with the exception that 33:66 splitfold rear seat is standard across all three variants.
Four Estate-specific factory-fitted options will be available: self-levelling rear pneumatic suspension -- $2000 (not available on C 63 AMG Estate); dark tinted privacy glass -- $1010 (not available on C 63 AMG Estate); an automatic tailgate -- $1010, and Benz's Easy-Pack load securing kit, priced at $700.
Benz claims the C-Class Estate's 1500-litre load carrying capacity is 146 litres larger than the W203 wagon, "almost ten per cent greater than its nearest category competitor" (read: BMW 3 Series) and is the largest in its VFACTS market segment (Medium >$60K).
Look out for our first drive of the new W204 C-Class wagon soon.
