Cadillac resurrects Ciel concept for movie promo

Gargantuan Caddy convertible brought back from the dead for Entourage movie promo

Cadillac has once again teased car enthusiasts hoping for a spiritual successor to the ’65 Lincoln Continental, or even the Cadillac Eldorado, by using its 2011 Ciel concept as a product placement for the upcoming Entourage movie due in cinemas next month.

The Ciel appears in a short film made by Entrourage creator, Doug Elin, in which character Ari Gold from the hit HBO TV series appears.

Despite appearing in numerous appearances, Cadillac has refused to confirm the concept that first appeared at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance will ever reach production.

Originally the rear-wheel drive Ciel was said to be powered by a twin-turbo direct-injection version of GM's 3.6-litre V6, mated to a hybrid system.

The Ciel was canned in 2013, after Cadillac execs declared the investment needed to created the low-volume $100,000 convertible by far outweighed any halo effect the luxury American brand would see in return.

The return of the Ciel in the high-profile promos that began late last year has fuelled speculation that perhaps another Ciel-like luxury concept could be created to test the waters again and see if the brand could sustain such an expensive vehicle.
