Callaway, known for its high-powered Chevrolet projects, has been tinkering under the hood of the Chevrolet SS (pictured), increasing the performance of the already powerful VF Commodore-based V8 sedan.
Thanks to a number of modifications, the highly-anticipated US sports sedan's power output rises from 309kW and 563Nm to a brutal 419kW and an HSV GT-rivalling 725Nm of torque.
To achieve these power gains, Callaway has fitted the Chevy SS -- essentially a rebadged Holden Commodore SS V Redline export model -- 6.2-litre V8 with a roots-type TVS supercharger, which adds an impressive 110kW of power.
Other changes to the Callaway-tuned Chevy SS include a water-to-air intercooler, higher flow intake, upgraded fuel injectors and a freer flowing exhaust system.
Although six-speed automatic transmission is untouched, these changes amount to what Callaway claim to be a zero-to-97km (0-60mph) time of 4.5 seconds, and the SS will take care of the quarter mile in only 12.4 seconds at 177km/h.
The Callaway tuner car is not quite as brutal as the home-grown HSV Clubsport R8-based Walkinshaw W497, but Callaway reckons their modifications have not negatively affected driveability, retaining the comfort and fuel economy of the standard Chevrolet SS.
If performance was not a clear enough indicator to differentiate the Callaway SS, Callaway have also added exterior and interior badges along with embroidered floor mats.
Callaway's most recent claim to fame was the redesigned 'shooting-brake' version of the Chevrolet Corvette, dubbed the AeroWagon concept.
Although a price has yet to be confirmed, all cars will come with a three-year warranty.
