A record month of export sales has signalled Toyota Australia's intentions regarding the new Camry. The company says it is aiming to export more than 85,000 of the four-cylinder medium-sized cars next year. According to Toyota, the new Camry will be exported to 20 countries including New Zealand and the Middle East.
"Overseas demand for the Australian-made Camry is running at record levels and has been buoyed by demand for the all-new Camry in both export and domestic markets," said Toyota Australia President and CEO Ted Okada.
August 2006 was a bumper month, Toyota says. The company is claiming an all-time Australian record for motor vehicle exports by any brand in a single month, with 10,699 cars exported during August.
It expects to ship about 80,000 cars during 2006; well up on last year when it exported 68,989 vehicles, the majority being left-hand-drive vehicles for the Middle East.
