US electric vehicle start-up Canoo has released pictures and details of an all-new battery-powered pick-up it will launch in 2023.
Set to be the third model based on a dedicated pure-electric architecture Canoo has developed in-house, its latest zero-emissions utility – which is still to be named – looks like a modern-take on the original Volkswagen Kombi ute.
Set to share its powertrain and battery packs with the Canoo MPDV delivery van, the Los Angeles-based car-maker has confirmed that deliveries of its Ford F-150 Electric or Rivian R1T alternative will begin in two years' time.

Available with either a rear-mounted electric motor, or dual motors that provide all-wheel drive, Canoo says its flagship variant will come with up to 447kW and 746Nm of torque, suggesting its truck should hit 100km/h in less than 4.0 seconds.
No details have been released on what size battery the Canoo pick-up will pack, but the company claims that a range of more than 320km will be offered.
Looking like it's catering more for lifestyle buyers than the heavier-duty battery-powered Ford F-150, the payload of the Canoo pick-up is only 816kg. There's no official word on how much the Canoo can tow.

Despite its lifestyle bent, the new concept's large wheels and all-terrain tyres suggest genuine off-road ability, while practical features include an extendable bed that can increase its length from 1.8m to an impressive to 2.4m.
The flexible load bed also features auxiliary tail-lights and secondary tailgate doors to secure the cargo in its longest mode. There's also handy power outlets, two tables on either side of the bed, wall perimeter lighting and a third brake light that doubles as an overhead lamp.
A clever bed divider, meanwhile, separates and secures cargo, while hidden side steps improve access.

The innovation continues elsewhere with a front boot that features yet more outlets, plus a front panel that can convert to a work bench.
Further roof racks, camper shells and truck toppers will also be offered, while the extended cab is claimed to be capable of being reconfigured. There's the possibility of a second row of seats, or repurposing the rear space available for another use.
Canoo says that ahead of deliveries beginning in 2023, it will begin accepting pre-orders from the second quarter of this year.

Despite not yet offering a single model for sale, and only being founded back in 2017, Canoo has already won the respect of the car industry following the introduction of its 2019 concept for an electric van.
Among those impressed by Canoo's in-house tech is Hyundai Motor Group, which has announced it will join forces with the LA-based firm to jointly develop a new pure-electric car platform for a family of small vehicles.
Before launching the pick-up, Canoo says it will first introduce the closely-related van in 2022.
