Car companies out in force for Motorclassica

It's still four months away, but this year's Motorclassica has already landed 13 car companies occupying floor space at Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building.

In this, its sixth year, Motorclassica will be supported by previous attendees Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, as well as Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Porsche, Maserati, Morgan and Caterham, all of which presented their products last year. Ferrari, BMW, Citroen and MINI are newbies for 2015.

"Motorclassica has now become, in its sixth year, the most significant annual automotive exhibition in Australia," Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers said.

"Year upon year, Motorclassica continues to attract key prestige and performance marques, simply because it provides a credible platform for them to celebrate their unique heritage and talk to an informed and engaged audience whose interest and enthusiasm goes beyond cars simply being transport to get from 'A to B'."

This year will be a milestone for two of the new entrants; BMW celebrates 40 years of 3 Series and Citroen is commemorating 60 years since the launch of the hydropneumatically-suspended DS. Additionally, as we've reported previously, the event will mark the 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura, the car that pioneered the modern supercar.

Organisers are anticipating Motorclassica for 2015 will feature 150 cars and motorcycles inside the historic venue, and car club displays outside the building will add a further 250 vehicles. Doors open October 23 and the event will run three days.
