The track-prepped Renault Megane RS Trophy R could hit the road with the same Australian-manufactured lightweight carbon-fibre wheels it just used to break the Nurburgring lap record.
The flagship RenaultSport hot hatch, recently set a new front-wheel drive production car lap record at the Nurburgring with a time of 7:40.100 <<< >>>. And it did so using Geelong (Vic) based company Carbon Revolution’s high-tech and lightweight CR-9 carbon-fibre wheels (in addition to some other tweaks)
Now, Carbon Revolution is suggesting the production car could get the same hoops.
First unveiled at this year’s Monaco F1 GP, alongside Renault F1 Team drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg, the Megane RS Trophy R features aerodynamic tweaks and a number of weight reduction measures. It is also the most powerful road-going variant the French brand has to offer.
Renault has yet to confirm the full specifications of the Trophy R. Locally, Renault Australia is also yet to confirm both its allocation and pricing.
It’s highly likely, however, that if the wheels are offered, they will be optional.
Carbon Revolution has previously supplied wheels for the Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R. More recently, it joined forces with Ferrari, supplying the Italian car-maker with lightweight carbon-fibre wheels. The company employs around 500.
