Update 2024

We truly love your interaction and input, but like a football field there are boundaries to stay within and rules to follow

The carsales.com.au Pty Ltd team want to encourage intelligent conversation and ensure our social media pages and accounts across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and TikTok are a friendly and safe place for everyone to research their next car, to get involved, ask questions, receive support and provide feedback (even constructive criticism) on all things carsales.

We value the opinion of our readers but will distinguish between comments and direct messages that contain constructive, relevant arguments and those that are abusive, offensive or could be construed as an attack and we will not provide a forum for trolling, abuse or personal attacks of any kind.

This guide is not designed to stop people discussing things they’re passionate about. It’s a reminder for social media users to consider the impact of their words and take responsibility for them.

Always maintain a respectful and considered attitude in discussion with each other and carsales staff and watch for language that could cause offence (and potentially drop us in boiling water with the authorities). This sort of content includes:

  • Racially or religiously vilifying any person, or inciting hatred or violence, or likely to insult, offend or humiliate others based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation or any physical or mental disability,
  • Demeaning cars built in other countries (casual racism),
  • Defaming individuals, including politicians, senior industry executives or carsales staff,
  • 'Doxing' others; respect the privacy of your fellow readers and carsales editorial staff,
  • Engaging in a war of words between supporters of different brands or models,
  • Directing personal remarks at other social media users,
  • Dismissing the opinions of others using phrases like 'fake news', 'political correctness' or 'virtue signalling',
  • Using profanities (including profanities translated into another language),
  • Submitting jokes or anecdotes that could be defined as inappropriate humour (toilet humour, illness and impairment, sexual perversion, et cetera)
  • Posting or linking to graphic violence and sexually explicit material.
  • Advertising or spam is unacceptable, as is any link to sites in direct competition with carsales.

If we decide a comment or direct message is not in keeping with the spirit of this policy, we will remove it. Social media users who breach this policy will be blocked. If you have any concerns about content or comments posted on our social media pages, please contact us via direct message.
