carsales named as major sponsor for TCR Australia Series

New 2.0-litre touring car championship gets underway in Sydney this weekend

carsales.com.au has been announced as the major sponsor for the 2019 TCR Australia Series, which debuts in Sydney this weekend.

In its debut year, the inaugural carsales TCR Australia Series will partner with Australia's largest online automotive, motorcycle and marines classified business, as major sponsor.

The global 2.0-litre touring car category arrives in Australia promising to shake up the motorsport scene with big-name drivers, mainstream teams, production-based hot hatch racers and a free-to-air broadcast deal.

The partnership follows successful carsales.com.au campaigns with the Kelly Racing team, as well as an ongoing personal association with our global ambassador, Australian Renault Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo.

"carsales is excited to be the series sponsor of TCR Australia Series," said Kellie Cordner, carsales chief marketing officer.

"carsales was one of the foundation supporters of the Big Bash League cricket and we see parallels with TCR Australia Series. The race formats are fresh and are designed with the modern consumer in mind.

"The cars look great and, like the Big Bash League, TCR Australia Series also has the chance to create a new generation of sports stars – it's great to see so many young up and coming drivers already in the series.

"As an international business, it's also important to us that TCR is a global formula."

On top of its naming rights sponsorship, carsales.com.au has been confirmed as a media partner for the TCR series – enabling exclusive content and live race feeds.

The first round of the carsales TCR Australia Series starts at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend (May 17-19), alongside the Shannons Nationals Championships.

Every round will be broadcast live on free-to-air HD broadcast by SBS. Saturday's race (May 18) will be shown from 2:00-3:00pm, while Sunday's two races (May 19) will have a two-hour broadcast from 1:00-3:00pm.

The series has already attracted car-maker support from Honda and big-name drivers including Jason Bright, Andre Heimgartner, Alex Rullo, Tony D'Alberto, Will Brown and Molly Taylor.
