Caterham Project V electric sports car teased again
Niche British car-maker to reveal first EV at Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12The Caterham Project V has been previewed again ahead of its July 12 debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Following on from the single shadowy side profile image already released, which suggested the Caterham Project V would be inspired by the likes of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (1967) and Ferrari Dino 206 (1967-1969), the new front-on pic shows off yet more of the curvy EV.
Featuring pronounced front fenders, two slimline daytime running lights and a wide lower front air intake, the niche British brand’s first-ever battery-electric car will be unashamedly retro in the styling department.
Created to mark Caterham’s 50th anniversary, the Project V has been developed under the mantra that it will be lightweight, fun to drive and driver focused.
Powertrain details remain under wraps, but the EV could use an evolution of the single e-motor set-up from the recent Caterham EV Seven concept.
If so, the new EV supercar could come with the same 240kW/250Nm rear-mounted electric motor that should enable a sub-4.0sec 0-100km/h acceleration time and a top speed of 250km/h.
The EV Seven also featured a lightweight 51kWh (40kWh useable) battery incorporating advanced liquid cooling that allowed it to be recharged from 0-100 per cent in just 15 minutes using a 150kW DC fast-charger.
Employing a small battery meant that the EV Seven concept weighed in at just 701kg – only 70kg more than a Caterham Seven 485 that offers a similar level of performance to the zero-emissions sports car.
To keep weight down, the new Project V will be based around a steel spaceframe and feature a body made either of aluminium or carbon-fibre.
It’s not clear when the production version of the Caterham Project V is set to be introduced, but rumours suggest it’s being readied for a 2026 launch.
