Cayman engines for Boxster

From October, Porsche's Boxster will come with the more potent 2.7-litre flat-six from the just-announced Cayman, and the 3.4-litre from the Cayman S.

Porsche will slot its Cayman engines into the Boxster, with the more potent cars on sale here in October.

The 2.7-litre base Boxster gets the same engine upgrades that go into the base Cayman, due here in August. That engine produces 180kW and 273Nm – 4kW and 3Nm more than the Boxster’s current 2.7-litre flat-six.

But the big news is that the Boxster S steps up from 3.2-litres to the 3.4-litre Cayman S engine (pictured). That engine’s 217kW is 11kW more than the out-going Boxster S could manage. Maximum torque increases to 340Nm, up 20Nm.
