CES 2016: Audi reveals virtual showroom
Virtual reality allows customers to configure – and hear – their Audi onlineAdvancements in virtual reality technology have been used by Audi to create a virtual showroom experience.
On display at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, the technology allows potential Audi customers to virtually experience configuring their next vehicle.
Collaborating on the project with Nvidia Quadro GPUs and VR suppliers Oculus and HTC, Audi promises a unique customer experience that builds on the VR car configurator system it launched back in 2013.
The entire range can be viewed through VR goggles, the network of which allows viewers to virtually specify trims and experience their chosen vehicle in a range of environments.
You can even hear what your Audi would sound like via life-like sound effects and view it in 3D thanks to a graphic system that uses five to seven million polygons to produce the image.
It can also reproduce movement at the rate of 90 frames per second, a key advancement over the previous system.
CES show-goers can enjoy the experience via VR headsets at the Audi stand. The VR system is expected to go live in Unites States dealerships later this year.
