CES 2017: Faraday Future teases production SUV

Glimpse of pure-electric Tesla Model X rival released ahead of its world debut in January at Las Vegas tech show

Faraday Future has released a shadowy teaser image of its as-yet-unnamed SUV that will go head-to-head with the Tesla's Model X, the Audi Q6 and the forthcoming Jaguar I-PACE that will be launched here in Australia in 2018.

Recently caught testing south of Los Angeles, the new pure-electric SUV has been designed by former i3 and i8 designer, Richard Kim.

From an earlier video tease and spy shots of the pure-electric SUV testing south of Los Angeles, we already know the new Faraday will look more like a high-riding people-mover, rather than a traditional SUV.

Faraday Future hasn't confirmed any technical details of its first production vehicle but it is likely to match rivals like the Audi's Q6's 500km range.

That means the Chinese car-maker will have to resort to equipping its first vehicle with a powerful 100kWh lithium ion battery.

We expect that will feed current to at least three motors — two powering the rear axle and one powering the front.

Combined, the range-topping version should produce around 400kW/900Nm and hit 100km/h in less than five seconds, plus have a limited top speed of 250km/h if it is to stand any chance of not being overshadowed by Jaguar’s new I-PACE.

All will be revealed at the 2017 CES show in Las Vegas when Faraday Future says it will unveil its first car, before the Chinese car-maker launches its first car sometime in 2018.

Earlier this year the Chinese-backed US car-maker announced that it had broken ground on a new 900-acre factory in the state of Nevada and would invest $1 billion and create 4500 jobs, but those plans were put on hold following news its Chinese parent company had run out of cash.

It's now rumoured that work on the new plant will continue early next year.
