The 2023 Peugeot Inception Concept has been revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, brandishing a futuristic new design language for the French car-maker as it moves towards a zero-emissions future.
Penned by Peugeot design director Matthias Hossann and described as a “design manifesto”, the Inception “presents the brand’s optimistic vision of the future” and is said to embody the core values of ‘Allure’, ‘Emotion’ and ‘Excellence’.
Essentially, that means the Inception concept is designed to grab attention and resonate with rusted-on Peugeot fans and prospective buyers alike, providing a tantalising look at how future models will appear from 2025.
The Inception is based on the Stellantis Group’s ‘STLA Large’ platform and takes full advantage of the more compact powertrain dimensions to maximise cabin space.
The glasshouse takes up more than three quarters of the car’s overall stance.
Long (5000mm) and low (1340mm), the five-seater Inception Concept has a slippery shape with a distinct layered look up front headlined by the chiselled and concave front fascia.
Just about everything in the cabin has been squared off, including the steering wheel, with the only exception being a circular digital instrument cluster sitting atop the dash.
Don’t expect these elements to carry over to production cars, which are sure to retain a more traditional cabin layout.
However, the mechanical details are more instructive, with a twin-motor powertrain in the Inception developing 500kW combined and enabling 0-100km/h acceleration of less than 3.0 seconds.
The motors draw energy from a large 100kWh battery pack which enables a theoretical driving range of up to 800km, while an 800V electrical architecture allows for 150km to be added in just five minutes of DC fast-charging, according to the car-maker.
Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson said the company was aiming to be Europe’s leading EV brand by 2030, with its electrification makeover going hand-in-hand with the styling revolution shown here.
