Honda has used the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to preview an all-new flagship battery-electric sedan that’s confirmed for production in 2026.
The new luxury sedan was shown at CES as the Honda 0 Series Saloon concept, built on a dedicated EV platform based on Japanese car-maker’s so-called M/M ‘man maximum/machine minimum’ packaging concept and featuring a raft of sustainably sourced materials throughout its construction.
The 0 Series Saloon has a radical wedge-like silhouette and rectangular design motifs for the front facia, lighting signatures and rear apron.
The interior is as unique as the exterior with a slimline steering yoke the contact point for a new steer-by-wire system, whereas the sleek HMI (human-machine interface) has been designed to be as user-friendly as possible, something that should pair nicely with the pending autonomous driving capabilities.
Other key features at this early stage include posture control adaptive seating, AI-based driver aids and active safety features, AI-based connected services, ultra-fast DC charging (15-80 per cent in 10-15 minutes) and new-age battery degradation of less than one per cent per annum, according to Honda.
The production version of the Honda 0 Series Saloon will be released in North America in 2026 before launching in Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America.
Australian plans aren’t clear at this stage but a local release is on the cards given right-hand drive production is confirmed.
The Saloon was joined at CES 2024 by a second 0 Series model: the Space-Hub, which follows most of the key principles of the Saloon but bundles them into a bigger, SUV-like bodyshell with an airier and roomier cabin.
A finishing touch to both concepts is the redesigned Honda ‘H’ logo, which officials say has been altered to “express the company’s determination to undergo a historic transformation” and foster its “ability to constantly pursue new challenges and advancements”.
“This new design expression, which symbolises two outstretched hands, represents Honda’s commitment to expand the possibilities of mobility and continue to meet the needs of its customers,” Honda said.
“The new H mark will be applied on future Honda EV models, including the Honda 0 Series.”
