A new platform designed to help electric car owners access more charging stations across Australia is on the way, dubbed Charge2Go.
Still in its infancy, the new offering will link EV owners to nearby charging stations beyond the public EV charging stations already listed in apps such as PlugShare.
Once you find a match, you’ll be able to book and pay via the online portal, turn up and charge, and then rate the experience to help other users.
Co-founded by former energy market executive Peter Geers and analytics specialist Hung Phan, the Charge2Go platform is said to help reduce range anxiety by “unlocking the value of private chargers”.
“To combat range anxiety, Charge2Go has created the Airbnb of EV chargers, unlocking the value of private chargers and making them more accessible, thereby incentivising more chargers to the system,” the company said.
Anyone – including individual or business owners – can advertise their charger on the platform, nominating when it’s available and how much the service will cost.
An electricity pricing guide is provided on the Charge2Go website, to help with pricing.
Charge2Go says it allows EV hosts to promote their location, products or other services in the vicinity so they can create an ecosystem around the charging location to attract people to use it.
“An EV user simply searches for a location or charger type and can then book a slot on that charger for the agreed service fee,” the company said.
It’ll also offer a way for individuals or businesses to recoup the purchase and installation costs of their charger.
Charge2Go says modelling has shown a well-utilised charger could pay for itself within one to two years.
The platform, which is currently in its pilot phase, is investigating partnerships with car manufacturers, retailers and businesses, which Charge2Go says could use the platform to showcase products and services including current EV offerings and even vehicle reviews.
