Mercedes-Benz has announced a sixth S-Class model for Australia: the S300 BlueTEC Hybrid.
To be priced from $195,000 (plus on-road costs), the model will undercut the current S-Class price leader – the S350 BlueTEC – by a cool $20,000 when it goes on sale here this April.
Like the S350 BlueTEC, the S300 BlueTEC is diesel powered, but pairs a 150kW and 500Nm version of its 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbocharged oiler with a 20kW and 250Nm synchronous electric motor.
The output figures see the S300 BlueTEC develop 40kW and 120Nm fewer than the S350 BlueTEC, however, the model is also more frugal, sipping just 4.5L/100km on the ADR Combined cycle, and with CO2 emissions of 118g/km.
Like all Australian delivered S-Class variants, the S300 BlueTEC is rear-wheel drive and fitted exclusively with Mercedes-Benz’s seven-speed 7G TRONIC automatic transmission.
Though expected to mimic those of the S350 BlueTEC, the S300 BlueTEC’s full equipment and specification details will be made available closer to the model’s local launch.
