Chevrolet Corvette now on sale

Pricing announced for three C8 variants in both coupe and convertible guise

UPDATED 30/03/2021 5:00pm: GMSV advises that the Corvette customer order book has not yet officially opened because full specifications for the right-hand drive MY22 model are yet to be announced. That will occur in the second quarter of this year, after which the Corvette ordering and delivery process will be handled by your preferred GMSV dealer.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE PUBLISHED 30/03/2021 NOON: The long-awaited Chevrolet Corvette supercar will be available in Australia in three specification grades and both coupe and convertible form, bringing the total number of variants to six, by the end of this year.

On sale now ahead of first deliveries in the fourth quarter via the 54-dealer network of General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV), which won’t honour deposits placed before it assumed Chevrolet distribution control last November, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette will be priced from $144,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level 2LT Coupe.

Adding enhanced interior appointments, the 3LT Coupe costs $160,500 plus ORCs and, while pricing for a special range-topping Carbon Edition for Australia and New Zealand is yet to be announced, convertible versions will command a $15,000 price premium.

GMSV is yet to reveal full specs for Australia’s MY22 model, but has confirmed that all Australian-spec C8 Corvettes will be fitted as standard with the Z51 Performance Package and Front Lift, as we’ve reported.

The Z51 package includes a performance dual-mode exhaust, performance suspension with Magnetic Selective Ride Control, larger Brembo brakes, electronic limited-slip differential, front splitter, rear fascia-mounted spoiler, extra cooling provisions and a specific rear axle ratio.

Naturally, all Aussie Corvettes will also be powered by a 369kW/637Nm 6.2-litre V8 driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 2021 Corvette is the eighth generation of GM’s famed supercar since 1953 but the first to be mid-engined and the first to be produced in right-hand drive from the factory.

GMSV said full MY22 Corvette specs and Carbon Edition pricing will be announced by mid-year.

However, it has confirmed standard features across the range will include a colour head-up display and Bose Performance Series 14-speaker audio system.

Meantime, the 3LT-based Carbon Edition will add “hand-picked interior trims, premium wheels and brake calliper package, an exclusive build plate and owners’ pack”.

“The Corvette is one of the world’s most recognisable sports cars and over-delivers with regards to performance expected of such a machine,” said GMSV director Joanne Stogiannis.

“It is the epitome of a true icon as it has heritage, performance and unparalleled desirability – generation after generation.

“Corvette is an iconic car and there is a massive groundswell of interest and anticipation building ahead of its local launch. We have every expectation it will more than live up to its legendary status.”
