Unlike the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, the brand-new Chevrolet Corvette will come to Australia via official channels at some point, most likely in Z51 form.
But if you’re wondering which car is faster, check out this no-nonsense video of a drag race between the world’s newest mid-engined supercar and one of the greatest muscle cars ever produced.
Both vehicles are ‘bone stock’, according to Texas-based tuning company Hennessey Performance, which put both vehicles up against each other in both a rolling-start race and from standstill.
The Chevrolet Corvette Z51 is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 that’s good for 370kW/640Nm and can hit 100km/h in around three seconds.
Under the bonnet of the Mustang Shelby GT500 is a 566kW/847Nm 5.2-litre V8, which Ford says can hit 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.
Both cars send power to their rear wheels via a dual-clutch automatic transmission, but the C8 is much lighter and has more aero focus, while the Mustang has much more power and torque.
The results might surprise you… Can you guess which car is quickest off the line and which is the fastest at the end of the run?
