US pricing for the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has been revealed, with the $US106,395 starting point indicating a $200,000-plus opening mark when the all-American supercar arrives in Australia next year.
While the straight currency conversion is more like $155K, local base pricing for the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT – $144,990 plus on-road costs – shows that General Motors Speciality Vehicles is already applying a premium of around 30 per cent compared to the equivalent US-spec model.
That means the stonking new Z06, which is powered by an all-new 500kW 5.5-litre LT6 V8, can be expected to start beyond $200,000 at launch Down Under, before on-road costs are added.
Ballooning costs of production and shipping, not to mention demand outstripping supply, could see it start even higher than that.
Three Z06 trim levels are being offered in North America – 1LZ, 2LZ and 3LZ – and each is available either as a coupe or convertible, with the drop-top commanding an extra $US7500 ($A10,926).
We’d expect a $15,000 premium to be applied between each of the three model grades, pushing the flagship 3LZ up to around $250,000 plus ORCs.
A host of enhancement and performance packs will be available in the US and Canada, ranging from aero accessories to track-rated chassis upgrades, including carbon-fibre wheels, semi-slick tyres and carbon-ceramic brakes.
The new 5.5-litre 32-valve DOHC V8 features a flat-plane crankshaft design and revs to no less than 8600rpm.
With 500kW on tap, General Motors claims that makes it the world’s most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 ever fitted to a production car, and hands the mid-engined C8 flagship an exhaust note unlike any previous Corvette.
