General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) is expanding its reach in Australia with the launch of Chevrolet Performance, providing a direct factory channel to the enthusiast market for Chevy crate engines, transmissions and individual components.
Debuting at the MotorEx custom and modified car show in Melbourne this weekend, Chevrolet Performance will showcase seven engines ranging from the SP350 (357hp) small block – billed as “an affordable performer to match just about any budget” – to the latest-generation LT1 (460hp) and supercharged LT4 (650hp).
A Supercars-spec LTRV8 from the racing Camaro ZL1 will also be on display, along with the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Off-Road Racer concept and a custom 1954 Chevrolet truck built by Matt Stone Racing for NTI Truck Insurance.
“As part of the GM Australia and New Zealand family of brands, Chevrolet Performance is another excitement brand that aligns closely with Chevrolet Racing and our commitment to motorsport,” said General Motors Australia and New Zealand aftersales and Chevrolet Racing general manager Chris Payne.
“For many years, Chevrolet Performance LS crate engines have been the logical choice for builders of special project vehicles and have provided the right solution to repower the enormous population of Commodore and HSV vehicles in the hands of enthusiast owners.”
The Chevrolet Performance website is already up and running, detailing the engines and transmissions (including components) available including the LT1, LT4, LS3 and LS376/525.
