GMSV has announced a new genuine fifth wheel hitch option for its Silverado HD, gifting its toughest ute an 8000kg braked towing capacity… for up to $20,000.

The reason for their insane asking prices – on top of the vehicle purchase – is because they?incorporate a factory-engineered and installed air brake system as well as a chassis structure and bed attachment plate, trailer connectors at the front of the tray, trailer brake airlines and additional interior controls and warning lights.
“The choice of 50mm pin coupling or 3.0-inch Gooseball means customers can select the setup that best matches the trailers they tow, while the factory-integrated air brake system adds another layer of confidence for larger combinations,” GM Australia and New Zealand managing director Jess Bala said.
“It is a practical, purpose-built solution that makes the Silverado 2500 HD even more capable for customers with specialised towing needs.”

The new accessories will be available on Q3 2026-build vehicles, however the packs can’t be retrofitted to pre-existing vehicles due to the level of extra engineering involved.
Walkinshaw Automotive will be responsible for the installations and carry them out during the local right-hand-drive remanufacturing process.
For reference, the Silverado 2500 HD LTZ Premium retails from $168,000 plus on-road costs.
