Chevrolet has taken the unusual step of unveiling its new 2016 Camaro body panel by panel, as you can see in these new images released late last night.
With just over a couple of weeks to go before its official launch on May 16, so far we’ve seen both official and unofficial videos and pics of a heavily camouflaged coupe testing, so this is our first glimpse of the undisguised car -- or at least part of it.
There’s not much we can learn other than see what Chevrolet says is the Camaro’s “more athletic” styling, and a bonnet said to be made of aluminium.
GM’s Mustang-rival could offer a big step forward in performance for the base models, especially since the we know the new car will ride on Cadillac's Alpha platform, which should see the next-gen car smaller physically and at least 100kg lighter, before any lightweight parts are added.
Unlike previous generations, the next Camaro won't be restricted to the US and major left-hand drive markets, and is
Like the Mk6 Mustang, the Camaro is tipped to come with the 198kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol from the Cadillac CT6.
The new Caddy is also expect to donate its new 250kW 3.0-litre V6 and new twin-turbo 298kW 3.0-litre V6.
Finally the range-topping SS will be the hero car, packing a similar 6.2-litre V8 to the current Camaro and pumping out at least 315kW. All engines should be available with six-speed manual and eight-speed automatics.
It’s likely we’ll have yet another Camaro tease (or two) from Chevy in the next week or so before the official launch.
