As the Chevrolet Camaro continues to sell strongly in North America, where demand is outstripping supply despite the flaccid economic conditions, a German publication is reporting that the new pony car is heading to Europe.
The Auto Motor und Sport periodical has quoted Jurgen Keller, the general manager at Chevrolet Germany, who claims that GM has confirmed European importation of the Camaro muscle car.
No scheduling on the Camaro's arrival nor pricing was divulged but the vehicle is expected to be offered in Germany initially.
At this stage General Motors has not indicated that it will develop a right-hand drive model for the UK. If this did happen, the chances of the Chevrolet Camaro muscle car coming to Australia would improve dramatically.
The Camaro was developed in Australia by GM Holden and would be well received in this country where larger rear-wheel drive V6 and V8 sports cars are highly regarded.
The Camaro is one of the best-handling sports cars in the GM line-up and with the option of a 300kW+ V8 engine it's also very quick in a straight line. For more details see our road test of the Camaro.
Along with possible European exports, the Chevy Camaro recently outsold its arch-rival, the Ford Mustang, for the first time in more than 15 years, representing a rare victory for a company going through very tough times.
