One of the many modified all-American utes that debuted at the 2016 SEMA show at Las Vegas, the Special Ops Silverado concept, has now been given the go-ahead for production.
Powered by a 313kW 6.2-litre V8, the burly pick-up truck is based on the Silverado 1500 (Z71 specification) and features a number of navy-inspired features, highlighted by it three-tone exterior paint work.
The striking blue colour scheme was inspired by the camouflage used on 20th-century US warships and when combined with a surplus of LED lamps and pumped wheel-arches covering 20-inch alloy wheels, it creates a bold visual statement.
Other tweaks to the Chevy Silverado include a rear sports bar, under-body protection and a slightly different grille with integrated LEDs.
The show car also had a few interior upgrades, such as orange highlights around the doors and glove box, not to mention a bolder instrument panel.
"This Silverado concept is a multipurpose truck that reflects the go-anywhere, do-anything commitment of special-forces teams," said Jim Campbell, GM's U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
Some of the regular features offered with the Silverado include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, plus a lane keep assistant, wireless phone charging, a remote locking tailgate and even power-articulating steps that make accessing the rear tray easier.Proceeds from sales of the Chevrolet Silverado Special Ops edition will be donated to the National Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Chevrolet hasn't said how many Black Ops vehicles it will build, merely stating that production will be limited, and it remains to be seen if the production version will get the upgraded exhaust and air intake kit, or six-piston brake callipers.
In Australia, Performax International imports and converts Chevrolet Silverados to right-hand drive, but it's unlikely the limited-edition naval-inspired pick-up will be seen here.
