Kia has revealed the first teaser image of yet another sleek concept car just a week after previewing a "racy" urban coupe concept urban coupe concept.
The 'Cross GT' concept rendered here is said to preview a "premium" crossover that will be larger than the seven-seat Sorento and could replace the Hyundai Terracan-sized Kia Borrego (both of which are now discontinued) in North America.
Perhaps more significantly for Australia, it's also said to herald a new design direction for Kia – as evidenced by a bold new interpretation of the progressive Korean brand's 'tiger nose' grille, flanked by a pair of sleek headlights ahead of a dramatically upswept shoulder line and a coupe-like roofline that ends abruptly in a chopped rear-end.
Kia has revealed no other details, but says the crossover draws its inspiration from nature and is "driven by technology".
Confusingly, the Cross GT concept will make its world debut alongside Kia's new Cerato hatchback at next week's Chicago motor show (from February 6), while the previously teased urban coupe concept will debut alongside the cee’d and pro_cee’d GT hot hatches at the Geneva show from March 5.
Just a few weeks later on March 27, Kia will stage the world premiere of its new Soul and Koup models at the New York show, where a significantly facelifted Optima sedan will also debut. All three models have been confirmed for Australian release.
Locally, Kia will begin its new model rollout in Australia with the new Cerato sedan in April, followed by the new Rondo people-mover in May, the new Cerato five-door in the third quarter and the new Koup late this year.
Redesigned Soul and facelifted Optima models will follow, and Kia Motors Australia continues to work on a business case to import the pro_cee’d GT as a three-door hot hatch flagship to top the new Cerato line-up.
