Chinese car-maker resurrects BMW bubble-car

Pure-electric EG6330K a blatant copy of BMW's iconic Isetta, created as zero-emissions, low-cost transport for the young, elderly and taxi drivers

A Chinese brand has once again been caught copying an established European manufacturer's design. This time, instead of a knock-off Range Rover Evoque or Porsche Macan, the car copied is the tiny BMW 600 that was made between 1957 and 1959.

According to CarNewsChina.com, the Eagle EG6330K is deliberately designed to recapture the spirit of the original three-wheeled micro-car designed by Italian motorcycle brand Isetta, but -- to bring it up to date -- the modern Chinese take on the iconic 'bubble' car ditches both its petrol engine and front-opening door for four conventional doors.

Already in production, the tiny pure-electric city-car is set to go on sale shortly, with prices set at around $5000.

Powered by a 72kWh lead-acid battery, the EG6330K comes equipped with a front-mounted single electric motor that produces just 4kW, offers a range of 140km and can top out at 60km/h – 40km/h slower than the original BMW 600.

Eagle hopes the EG6330K's retro design will become a hit with young teenage drivers as well as the elderly drivers looking to downsize to a cheap pure-electric vehicle. The Chinese car-maker is also courting city-based taxi drivers.
