Chosen few for Ferrari Scuderia 16M
Only a handful of Australians will get to experience Maranello's fastest soft-topFerrari's fastest open-top road car is not likely to be a regular sight on Australian roads.
With just 499 of its Scuderia 16M Spider model being built at the factory in Maranello, Italy, the Australian allocation of just 12 cars ensures a rare level of exclusivity for those able to find the $50,000 or so over the price of the regular Ferrari F430.
In fact, the announcement by Ferrari's local importer Ateco that the first cars have arrived in Australia is largely irrelevant because all have already been sold. New Zealand has been allocated just three Scuderia 16M Spiders.
The company's fastest-ever open-top car sprints to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and runs to a top speed of 315km/h.
The Scuderia 16M Spider is based on the F430 Scuderia that was launched in 2007 and uses Ferrari's normally aspirated 90-degree 4.3-litre V8 developing 375.4kW and 470Nm of torque. The car apparently laps the company's Fiorano test track faster than the V12-engined Enzo supercar.
F1 technology is evident throughout the car, including the six-speed F1-SuperFast2 gearbox, F1-Trac traction control and E-Diff.
The Scuderia 16M will be joined by the all-new Ferrari California, flaunting the company's first folding hard top, later this year.
