Chrysler Airflow Vision concept to star at CES
US car-maker previews minivan concept ahead of Las Vegas reveal; will influence brand's new design directionChrysler has released pictures of its new Airflow Vision Concept that it will unveil later this month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Borrowing its name from the slippery Chrysler Airflow sedan of the 1930s, the US car-maker's latest concept it claimed to be around the same sizes as the current Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
Promising a "first-class travel experience", the Airflow Vision features a cabin that gets technology that will debut soon in future Chryslers.
Featuring a clean, minimalist approach to design, the Airflow Vision bags a shrunken Peugeot-esque steering wheel that has a slimline speedometer.
Like most modern cabins, a large traditional portrait-mounted central infotainment screen dominates proceedings. Below the main screen, mimicking the likes of Land Rover and Audi, a secondary smaller screen displays additional information.
Ahead of the passenger, yet another screen has been positioned within the dash that allows for the driver to 'swipe over' different menus and functions for the co-pilot to operate, hinting a more inclusive infotainment system.
There's more digital interactivity with an additional pair of touch-sensitive screens in the lower central area of the dashboard, intended to be used by both driver and passenger to adjust the climate control.
Completely absent from the cabin are buttons – although there is a rotary controller for the driver that, it's thought, could select gears or operate the infotainment system without getting grubby paw prints on the screen.
In the second row a pair of captain chairs allow passengers to recline in comfort.
Chrysler hasn't announced if the Airflow Vision is a futuristic replacement for the current Pacifica minivan that went on sale in 2017, but the US brand's latest concept is tipped to be hugely influential.
The aerodynamically-enhanced body shape and exterior design, slim LED light bar and narrow front headlamps are set to appear on all future models.
Beneath the skin, the CES concept is likely to be powered by a development of the car-maker's latest plug-in hybrid powertrain.
