Chrysler Akino set to wow Tokyo

The first of the expected throng of Tokyo Motor Show concept cars has surfaced. And for once it's on the production side of practical!

It seems Chrysler is set to join its DaimlerChrysler stablemates Mercedes and smart in the trendy world of 'one-box' concept vehicles. The new car, dubbed Akino, is set to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 4. It is not, however, the next Voyager, but rather a concept only.

Designed as a full five-seater, Akino is the handiwork of Interior and Exterior Designer, Akino Tsuchiya. The 37-year-old, who was born in Japan, is based at the DaimlerChrysler's Pacifica Advanced Design Center in Carlsbad (CA) USA. Tsuchiya is also responsible for the exterior styling of the Dodge Razor and interiors of the Dodge Kahuna and Chrysler Citadel concepts

The heavily styled exterior exterior of the Akino features trademark Chrysler styling cues - as evidenced by the Crossfire-style rear hatch flutes and corporate bar and shield grill. Big wheels and low slung stance are pure 300C.

The interior is accessed by twin left hand side doors. There's single RHS door for the driver. The interior is more lounge room than mobile office. It incorporates bamboo flooring, sconce lighting even a throw rug and pillows. The rear seat is configured in a quadrant-style lounge.

At this stage no information has been offered on the Akino's powertrain.

Tokyo Show opens on October 4. It is traditionally the home of some of the automotive world's wackiest concepts. More next week...
